Have you seen these beautiful vintage table runners at flea markets? Always wanted to buy one but thought they were too expensive? Well now you can make your own, cheap and easy!
- Canvas drop cloth or vintage hemp cloth
- Fabric paint
- Grout tape
Find yourself a good, natural-colored canvas drop cloth (or a vintage hemp cloth). Then wash and tumble dry a few times to soften the fabric.
Lay the cloth flat. Run a strip of 1/4-inch grout tape down the middle of the fabric lengthwise. Then run two more on either side, spacing them 1/4 inch apart (to give yourself two lines to paint.
Squirt some blue fabric paint (or your desired color) onto a paper plate and dab a brush in it, off-loading any extra paint onto a paper towel. Lightly brush the paint on the cloth between the taped areas to catch the grain of the canvas.
Continue to layer the pigment until it appears as dark as desired. Remove the tape once the paint has dried according to the package instructions.
